What it actually is
A relaxed, oversized jumper knitted from a merino wool blend. Merino is what separates a jumper you wear from one that lives in a drawer. Merino fibres are far finer than standard sheep's wool — fine enough that they bend against the skin instead of pressing into it, which is the entire reason ordinary wool feels prickly and merino does not. Those fine fibres also regulate temperature: merino holds heat when it is cold, releases it when you warm up, and moves moisture away from the skin, so you can wear it in a heated office without overheating. It is naturally odour-resistant too, so it needs washing far less often than cotton. The boyfriend cut is deliberately roomy through the body and shoulders, so it falls in soft folds rather than following your shape.
