What it actually is
A fitted mini dress with a single shoulder strap and gathered, ruched fabric across the torso. The asymmetry is what makes it read as a designed piece rather than a plain bodycon: one bare shoulder creates a diagonal line across the body, and the eye follows a diagonal rather than settling on any one part of you. The ruching does the second half of the job. Gathering the fabric into soft folds breaks up the surface, so nothing shows through and nothing sits flat against the stomach — and because the gathers run across the waist, they pull the eye sideways and make the middle look narrower. In white, both details matter twice as much, because flat white fabric shows everything and ruched white fabric shows nothing.
